Hi, A draft of my storyboard is complete. I did my best to answer all the codes that I felt applied to each clip. The way I set up my storyboard is that it starts with how family life used to be before all of the technological advances of today. After this, I put clips of how technology negatively impacted quality family time and then I flip over to the counter value of my mashup that shows clips of how technology has been more of a positive influence on families and society in general. At the end, the last clip illustrates the main point of my mashup which states that there should be a balance between technology and quality family time. My next steps from here are to take the video clips from my storyboard and create a video mashup. I will be continuing to look for some materials that are more connotative to my topic discussed in my Proposal. I am thinking about using Windows Moviemaker to create my mashup. I will be using this moviemaking application to rip clips from the YouTube videos within my annotated bibliography and then I will be putting them in the order that you will see in my storyboard below. Please feel free to post any feedback that you may have.
Comments:Having written my proposal, I feel as though it needs some work and some more research as I have no idea what actual piece of music I would like to use. Please read my proposal and feel free to give and comments or suggestions that will help improve it.
YouTube Conversation Assignment Page Network of Controlling Values:
The whole reason behind why many parents enjoy showing their children this film is because the controlling idea triumphs over the counter idea. The controlling Idea basically states that if you listen to your parents or elders you will prosper and be successful in your endeavors later on in life. As you can see in the clip above, King Triton and Ariel have completely opposite ideas in the same way that Mufasa and Scar have in "The Lion King." Only this time, if you've seen the film as I'm sure you have , the counter idea triumphs over the controlling idea. Ariel proves to her father that not all humans are dangerous. However, even though the film has a happily ever after ending, it really is not teaching children good values as far as listing to your parents like the "Lion King" does. So, this brought upon a lot of controversy among parents and many criticized the film because of it's seemingly poor message. The article link below, is written by a mother who has some negatively critical feelings about the movie. This should somewhat prove my point. My final statement is this: many stories, films and plays all have a controlling idea and a counter idea that can produce different aesthetic emotions depending on which idea triumphs over the other. It's all about how a story is structured and how the two clashing ideas battle it out that produces aesthetic emotion. Some aesthetic emotions felt by the audience can be either negative or positive depending on the narrative outcome, as explain by McKee (p. 129-131). In "The Lion King," the aesthetic emotions that were produced were positive and "The Little Mermaid," they were negative in some aspects. This is a really interesting observation, don't you think?
